Monsoon Rain and Heatwave Simultaneously: Up to 200mm of Rain Expected Starting Wednesday
The weather has been erratic lately, with heavy downpours suddenly interrupting sweltering heat. Starting tomorrow, July 8, heavy rain is forecast across the country once again. By the day after tomorrow, some areas are expected to see torrential rain of over 200mm.

In Seoul today, after monsoon rain fell in the early morning, the daytime high reached 31.9°C (89°F).
In Okcheon-gun, North Chungcheong Province, a heavy rain advisory was issued in the morning, only to be replaced by a heatwave advisory about three hours later.
Because the hot air is saturated with water vapor, heavy rain and heatwaves are occurring alternately.
Starting tomorrow, the monsoon front will become active again.
The North Pacific High, which pushes the monsoon front northward, is strengthening, and a low-pressure system passing from the north is also pushing the front northward.
From early tomorrow morning to the morning hours, heavy rain of 20 to 50mm per hour is expected in the central region.
After the low-pressure system passes, cold air will descend from the north.
This cold air will compress the monsoon front, causing rain clouds to develop even more intensely.
Accordingly, up to 200mm or more of rain is forecast for South Chungcheong and North Jeolla Provinces from tomorrow through the day after tomorrow.
In particular, tomorrow night, a large amount of water vapor will flow in from the West Sea on a strong low-level wind known as a low-level jet, which could lead to concentrated, heavy rainfall of 50mm per hour in South Chungcheong and North Jeolla Provinces.
Let us also take a look at the typhoon.
Typhoon Bavi, the 9th typhoon of the season, which formed on July 2, is currently passing through waters west-northwest of Guam.
It has a clear eye and a well-defined spiral structure. It has developed into a massive typhoon with a strength of 4—the second strongest category—and a wind radius of 500km.
It is large enough to cover the entire Korean Peninsula and more.
Typhoon Bavi is expected to pass through waters east of Taiwan and make landfall in the southern inland region of China this Sunday.
The Korea Meteorological Administration expects that while it will affect the North Pacific High that pushes up our monsoon front, there will be no direct impact on Korea.
