The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it has conducted a comprehensive inspection of 2,726 relational crime cases, including stalking and domestic violence, over the past fortnight.
The inspection targets included 1,050 cases currently under investigation, high-risk monitoring subjects, stalking reports closed at the scene, and ongoing safety measure cases.
Among the cases under investigation, police classified 263 cases (25.0%) as high risk and took measures such as requesting arrest warrants.
As a result, decisions were made for 5 arrests, 10 electronic monitoring devices, and 8 detentions.
Police also inspected 1,328 cases classified as Monitoring Grade A, which involve subjects who have had cases filed twice or more over the past three years or have a history of protection order decisions.
Among them, the police initiated pre-indictment investigations (internal probes) into 15 cases where additional risks were identified and added safety measures for 10 cases.
After re-examining 317 stalking reports that had been closed at the scene, pre-indictment investigations are also underway for 15 of those cases.
Looking at major cases, the Busan Jin Police Station tracked down and apprehended an offender who visited and threatened an ex-lover despite being in the emergency intervention period for stalking, and subsequently arrested the suspect by combining ongoing investigative cases.
The Saha Police Station additionally applied previous special intimidation charges to a special injury case involving a husband who suspected his wife of infidelity, resulting in his arrest.
As a result of this second-half comprehensive inspection performance, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency was selected as an outstanding provincial and municipal police agency nationwide, while the Busan Jin Police Station and Saha Police Station were each selected as top-performing police stations nationwide.
