A man in his 60s has murdered a woman in her 70s in Seoul, who was his former romantic partner. The man had previously stalked the victim and was required to wear an electronic tracking anklet, but committed the crime just two weeks after the anklet was removed.

Here is more from reporter Im Jihyeon.

A residential neighborhood in Bulgwang-dong, Seoul, early this morning (Nov. 5).

Two police cars pull in, followed by an ambulance about an hour later.

After receiving a report that a woman in her 70s, identified as A, was missing, police tracked her location and asked the fire authorities to open the door to a specific house.

This location was the home of a man in his 60s, identified as B, who was A's former romantic partner. A was found dead inside the house.

Police arrested B at the scene on murder charges.

The man was found unconscious with no external signs of injury and was transported to the hospital.

[Nearby Resident: Oh, I'm shaking so much I could die. Just yesterday at 2 o'clock, we helped carry her (A's) belongings together and talked to each other...]

[Nearby Resident: They broke up 3 to 4 months ago, and (B) was reported for stalking.]

B has a history of receiving four police reports for assaulting and stalking A in the past.

In July, police requested an arrest warrant, but the prosecution rejected it at the time, citing reasons such as B having just undergone cancer surgery.

Instead, police applied for provisional measures against B with the court, and B was held in a detention center for a month from mid-July.

In addition, he wore a location-tracking electronic anklet from his release until October 22, meaning he committed the crime just two weeks after the location tracking ended.

Police plan to determine the exact cause of A's death through an autopsy, while investigating the precise motives and circumstances of the crime as soon as B finishes treatment.
