A 2.75-ton fishing boat capsized in the waters near Yeonhwado, Yokji-myeon, Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, at around 2:12 p.m. today (November 5), causing two crew members to fall into the sea.

After receiving a distress signal through the fishing boat's position-sending device, the Tongyeong Coast Guard requested rescue assistance from a nearby 6.63-ton fishing boat.

The fishing boat arrived at the scene in about 10 minutes and rescued the captain in his 60s, surnamed A, and a crew member in his 30s, surnamed B, who were stranded on the overturned hull.

Both individuals were transported to a hospital.

Authorities determined that the accident occurred when the fishing boat was struck by a swell wave while returning to port after conditions worsened while operating near Yeonhwado.

The Coast Guard plans to tow the capsized boat and investigate the exact cause of the accident.
