President Lee Jae-myung emphasized that "how to protect unique human choice and sovereignty while effectively utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) is a challenge of our times that we all must resolve together."
President Lee made the remarks in a congratulatory address read by Sung Ki-hong, Senior Presidential Secretary for Public Communication, at the SBS D Forum held on the morning of November 5 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul, describing the current era as a "great turning point" brought about by artificial intelligence.
He stated, "In response to these transitional challenges, the government presented a vision of a 'Global AI Basic Society' at the United Nations General Assembly in September, ensuring that no country or person is excluded from the basic benefits of AI advancements."
He also noted, "We declared South Korea's commitment to standing in close solidarity with the international community so that artificial intelligence can serve as an excellent tool to solve common challenges facing humanity, such as the climate crisis and public health."
Lee added, "I hope that (today's SBS D Forum) will provide in-depth answers to the question, 'How can we utilize AI as a driving force for innovation while maintaining human agency and responsibility?' and serve as a valuable opportunity to gather concrete wisdom to realize the values of a 'Global AI Basic Society.'"
Now in its 22nd year, the SBS D Forum is SBS's "knowledge-sharing project" that sheds light on pressing issues facing our society from diverse angles, featuring lectures by world-class speakers and presenting the outcomes of year-round projects at its annual forum held every November.
