People Power Party Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sig stated on Thursday (November 5) that he would "resolutely fight against an unconstitutional parliamentary coup," regarding the Democratic Party of Korea's push to pass a so-called "special counsel bill on fabricated indictments" during today's National Assembly plenary session.
Speaking at the party's Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly today, Floor Leader Jeong said, "We will immediately launch a filibuster (lawful obstruction of legislative proceedings through unlimited debate). We will mobilize every available means and method."
He continued, "The essence of the fabricated indictment special counsel bill is the erasure of trials for the president. It is a sinister plot to brand every case as a fabricated indictment, completely overturn judicial rulings, and avoid standing trial altogether," adding, "Furthermore, by including unconstitutional criminal cases from the Moon Jae-in administration within the scope of the investigation, they are attempting to patch over internal factional rifts through a solidarity of erasing trials."
He also emphasized, "Right now, the Democratic Party is trying to turn the president into an extralegal emperor who can erase his own trials at will," adding, "The Democratic Party's conduct of playing the role of royalists will go down as the worst disgrace in constitutional history."
Floor Leader Jeong said, "If we are blocked in Yeouido, we will take to the streets. Together with the public, we will stop this ugly parliamentary coup," declaring, "We will definitely make President Lee Jae-myung stand in court. We will hold the Democratic Party accountable."
