Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, has issued a strong warning to local businesses and small merchants, urging extreme caution as there have been recent cases of individuals impersonating city hall officials to request the purchase and delivery of goods from local businesses.
The impersonator contacted businesses while posing as an employee affiliated with Goyang City Hall, then requested the purchase and delivery of specific items.
It was found that during this process, the suspect sent forged official documents disguised as those issued by actual administrative agencies via mobile phone, leading businesses to mistake the orders for legitimate procurement work by the city.
The city confirmed that these contacts and documents were impersonation acts entirely unrelated to the city, and has requested a police investigation to prevent further damage.
Fortunately, the business directly contacted the actual responsible department to verify the facts, preventing financial losses such as the delivery of goods.
The city emphasized that to prevent similar impersonation damages, individuals must verify the authenticity even when receiving official documents or procurement-related materials.
In particular, the city urged people to verify actual order placements and responsible departments through the official administrative phone numbers listed on the city's website.
