The film HOPE has set a new opening-day record for a Korean film released in France this year.
According to its investment and distribution company Plus M Entertainment, HOPE was released across 192 screens throughout France, recording an opening gross of approximately 800,000 dollars. Notably, on Saturday, October 31, during the opening weekend, it showed strong momentum by ranking second at the box office in Paris, a key market that accounts for 31 percent of France's total box office revenue.
The enthusiasm for HOPE continued in Belgium as well. Released across 38 screens in Belgium, HOPE recorded an opening gross of about 64,000 dollars, significantly outperforming the opening records of Decision to Leave and Burning. Following France, it has signaled an impressive start in Belgium, greenlighting its box office success in the European market.
HOPE tells the story that begins when Bum-seok, the head of the Hopohang branch office located in the Demilitarized Zone, hears news from local youths about the appearance of a tiger, and encounters an unbelievable reality as the entire village goes on high alert. Directed by Na Hong-jin, the film stars Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Jung Hoyeon, and others.
Having been released domestically in July, HOPE attracted 4.6 million moviegoers nationwide and is now meeting overseas audiences with its release in the European market following North America.
