The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority announced today (Nov. 4) that it is expanding the growth foundation for future industries, including K-content and biotechnology, across the Songdo, Yeongjong, and Cheongna districts.

In Cheongna, the "Som City" project—a visual culture complex encompassing 188,000 square meters of land to develop video production facilities and cultural and tourism infrastructure utilizing content intellectual property (IP)—is being pursued in earnest.

In connection with this project, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to foster Cheongna into a global visual industry hub by attracting domestic and international content companies as well as foreign investment capital.

In Songdo, construction recently began on the "K-Bio Lab Hub," a startup support facility for the biotechnology sector, and the World Health Organization (WHO) "Global Bio Campus Practical Training Center" also opened its doors, further expanding the biopharmaceutical industry ecosystem.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to newly designate a 6.32-square-kilometer area in the southern part of Ganghwa Island as a free economic zone to foster green and blue biotechnology, physical artificial intelligence (AI), and complex tourism industries.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority has established the "2nd Incheon Free Economic Zone Development Plan," which includes these projects, and plans to submit it to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy following a final reporting session in December.

"Moving beyond development-oriented investment attraction, we will pursue strategic investment attraction tailored to national industrial strategies and changes in global supply chains," said Kim Jong-cheol, Commissioner of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority.
