Democratic Party of Korea Leader Kim Min-seok apologized, stating there was "no basis" for the so-called tripartite coalition of anti-Myung, divisionist, and Shincheonji forces that he previously alleged against former leader Jung Chung-rae during the last national convention.
According to Floor Spokesperson Kim Seong-hoe, Leader Kim made the remarks during a general meeting of party lawmakers this afternoon (November 3), stating, "I would like to offer my sincere apologies to anyone who may have unintentionally suffered harm."
The remarks are viewed as an apology to party members for internal strife and confusion sparked by the Shincheonji-related allegations.
The Democratic Party initially planned to disclose the results of an internal investigation into suspicions of mass party registration by Shincheonji members during the lawmakers' meeting, but changed course at the last minute and did not present the report.
Following the meeting, former leader Jung Chung-rae said, "In the end, they could not find anything because there was no basis for a secret three-way coalition." He added, "Instead of hiding in a closed-door meeting to say sorry, I hope he will step forward publicly and offer an open apology to the party members who were hurt by this."
Jung also stated, "Inflicting humiliation and confusion on party members and placing the party in severe jeopardy constitute anti-party actions," emphasizing, "I hope he will state for himself what responsibility he will take. The one who tied the knot must untie it."
