Additional crimes have been uncovered involving a former police officer who was indicted and detained on charges of falsely closing missing person reports in Jeju.
The Jeju Provincial Police Agency announced on November 3 that an investigation into the additional offenses of the former officer, A, revealed he falsely closed 10 missing person reports by claiming their whereabouts had been confirmed without actually verifying the individuals.
Furthermore, he was found to have arbitrarily deleted 15 records listed in the police missing persons profiling system management list.
Among the deleted records were individuals under management according to the Missing Children Act, including minors, according to reports.
These additional cases are separate from the previously uncovered false closure cases involving two incidents, including that of a woman in her 30s surnamed Jang.
It was also confirmed that all of the missing persons in these additional cases are alive.
The police had been conducting a comprehensive investigation into 298 cases that A had independently processed and closed while working in the missing persons team at the Jeju Western Police Station from March of last year to July of this year.
The police have additionally referred A to the Jeju District Prosecutors Office on charges including the fabrication and uttering of official electronic records and the creation of false official documents.
