A man in his 50s, who intentionally discharged and turned off his electronic ankle monitor during a provisional stalking restraining period and threatened to go on a weapon rampage, is facing a critical turning point regarding his arrest.
Judge Yang Hwan-seung, the senior judge dedicated to warrant proceedings at the Seoul Eastern District Court, held a pre-arrest interrogation for the suspect, known as Mr. A, in his 50s this afternoon.
Mr. A appeared at the court wearing knee-length shorts, with the electronic monitor visible on his left ankle.
Mr. A, who was already under a provisional disposition order requiring the attachment of a location-tracking electronic device due to a stalking case, is accused of calling an official at the Seoul Eastern Probation Office on November 1 and threatening to carry out a weapon rampage at the Blue House, the National Police Agency, and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
He also faces charges of discharging the electronic monitor by intentionally refusing to charge it.
Police who were dispatched following a report from the probation office made an emergency arrest of Mr. A on the street in Naesu-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, at around 12:20 PM that day, and requested an arrest warrant yesterday.
No weapons were reportedly found on Mr. A.
Regarding Mr. A's stalking charges, the prosecution indicted him in September, and a trial is currently underway.
