Middle school students who stole gold bars and fled from the jewelry district in Jongno, Seoul, have been caught by the police.
Today (November 2), the Seoul Jongno Police Station announced that it had apprehended three middle school students on charges of stealing four gold bars from a jewelry store in Jongno-gu in broad daylight on October 31.
The crime was carried out methodically.
They are accused of approaching the jewelry store under the pretext of buying gold bars and fleeing with a total of four gold bars, each weighing 1 don (3.75g), taking advantage of a moment when the owner was not looking.
The jewelry store owner noticed that the gold bars were missing about 30 minutes after the crime.
Upon receiving a report from the owner, the police rushed to the scene and sequentially emergency-arrested the middle school students nearby within 10 minutes of dispatch.
Investigations revealed that they are neighborhood friends who visited Seoul from another region to celebrate Halloween and committed the crime.
It was reported that one of the members in the group is a juvenile under the age of 14, who is exempt from criminal punishment.
The middle school students reportedly stated during police questioning that they committed the crime because they needed money.
