▲ People Power Party Leader Jang Dong-hyeok moves to protest after listening to a press conference by Special Counsel Lee Tae-han of the National Election Commission special counsel team during a public verification of June 3 local election ballots held at the Handball Gymnasium in Olympic Park, Songpa-gu, Seoul, on October 28.
People Power Party Leader Jang Dong-hyeok criticized the National Election Commission (NEC) and the special counsel team, saying, "The NEC and the special counsel vanished with the ballot boxes as if conducting an operation with the police, as if fleeing in the night."
At around 6:50 a.m. today (October 29), after Special Counsel Lee Tae-han's team completed the public verification of the June 3 local election Songpa district ballot boxes at the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium in Songpa-gu, Seoul, and began moving them out, Leader Jang told reporters, "The evidence that could revive the precious votes of the people has disappeared."
Leader Jang and several People Power Party lawmakers stayed at the site overnight to block the transfer of the ballot boxes, even after observing the public ballot verification by the special counsel team, which lasted about 12 hours starting yesterday (October 28).
Starting around 6:30 a.m., the National Election Commission moved out ballots determined to have no irregularities.
Leader Jang claimed, "During yesterday's verification process, countless pieces of evidence pointing to election fraud poured out. There is still more evidence of election fraud remaining inside the ballot boxes," adding, "I will gather strength and fight alongside the people to uncover the NEC's wrongdoing."
In a Facebook post, Leader Jang also criticized, "The special counsel says that 'the ballots subject to investigation are limited to those selected' and that they have 'no authority' over the rest, intending to hand them over to the NEC. The moment the shortage of ballot papers occurred, the NEC had already lost that authority. The NEC is a suspect in this case. No investigation leaves evidence in the hands of the suspect."
Leader Jang explained that during the observation process, they discovered storage boxes with damaged security seals, boxes with altered or reprocessed security seals, and boxes containing ballots from other neighborhoods. He also noted cases where the actual number of ballots fell short of the vote tally, ballots with different colors or narrower side margins, and ballots missing the election supervisor's official stamp or showing different stamp ink colors.
He then stressed, "This is only what has been revealed so far. This is why we must protect the 2.47 million ballots."
Lawmaker Kim Tae-gyu also wrote on Facebook, "At the table I inspected, +100 votes for the Democratic Party (proportional representation in Garakbon-dong) and -1 vote for the People Power Party?"
