The Coast Guard is conducting containment operations after a vessel flooded and leaked oil while moored at a pier in Yeongdo-gu, Busan.
According to the Busan Coast Guard, a report was received at around 10:30 a.m. today (the 28th) that a dredging vessel (a construction work ship) was sinking at a mooring quay (a dock where small ships berth) near Busan Bridge in Bongrae-dong, Yeongdo-gu.
The 149-ton barge-type vessel flooded and tilted to one side, causing parts of its hull to submerge. However, because the water is shallow at a depth of 2 to 3 meters, there is no risk of it sinking completely.
No casualties have been confirmed.
The Coast Guard discovered an oil sheen presumed to have leaked from the vessel floating in the waters in front of the pier and is currently carrying out containment and cleanup operations.
