Ahead of the opening of the Shinhan Super SOL 2026-2027 Handball H-League, the head coaches of the six men's clubs have previewed an exciting long-run race.
The Korea Handball Federation held a media day on the 27th at the Mayfield Hotel in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.
The attending coaches and players brought up "a sense of speed," a global trend, as the key theme of the season.
Coach Huh Chul-young of the Incheon Urban Corporation, which secured the combined championship in the 2025-2026 season, attended in place of Manager Jang In-ik and expressed his determination, saying, "We will prepare for the new season so that all players can become our 'secret weapon' as one team, just like last season."
He added, "We have many agile players on our team," emphasizing his pride in fast-paced play.
Doosan Head Coach Yoon Kyung-shin vowed, "This season, we need to get through the campaign with more steadfastness and grit than ever before. We have built our team with young players to showcase a 'crazy mode' centered around fast and powerful offense-defense transitions."
Doosan was the powerhouse that achieved 10 consecutive combined championships from the 2015 season to the 2024-2025 season, but failed to even advance to the playoffs in the 2025-2026 season.
Coach Yoon showed enthusiasm by stating, "Although my heart feels heavy having been the 'public enemy' (at media days) in the past, I also feel relieved. Since we have formed the team with young players, we will prepare well for the league through a fresh new challenge."
SK Hawks Head Coach Nuno Alvarez, the league's only foreign manager, introduced, "Our existing players and newly recruited players will create a synergistic effect," adding, "We have reinforced our speed and defense."
Sangmu Head Coach Cho Young-shin said, "Eleven new recruits enlisted in September," adding, "It will be fun to watch this season to see whether our team or another team is faster," pointing to high-speed battles as a key viewing point for the men's division.
Chungnam Provincial Government Head Coach Lee Seok stated, "Chungnam's provincial bird is the goshawk, a symbol of bravery and tenacity loved by the Baekje people, which matches our team's color of never giving up. We achieved our most wins ever (9 wins) last season, and I want to break that record this season as well."
Hanam City Hall Head Coach Baek Won-chul threw down his challenge, declaring, "We will aim for games with over 40 goals through 'crazy offense.'"
