First, an octogenarian with dementia who got lost on Mount Mudeung in the middle of the night amid rain was safely rescued following a police search.
A report was filed late at night two days ago regarding an elderly woman in her 80s who had lost her way on Mount Mudeung.
Police searched the steep terrain of Mount Mudeung based on the GPS location data from her mobile phone.
However, because it was raining at the time and there were no hiking trails near the GPS coordinates, access was difficult.
After searching up a steep slope overgrown with thorny bushes, police officers found the grandmother at an altitude of 250 meters about 50 minutes after being dispatched.
At the time she was found, the grandmother was showing symptoms of exhaustion from being exposed to the rain for a long time.
As she was unable to move on her own, two police officers took turns carrying her on their backs down the mountain trail for about 40 minutes, successfully bringing her down safely.
It was investigated that the grandmother suffered from dementia and had lost her way after setting out on a hike alone.
