People Power Party Leader Jang Dong-hyeok criticized the appellate court's acquittal of Seoul Mayor Oh Sehun, saying, "The special counsel acted as an indictment vending machine for the administration and was struck down by the court," adding, "This is what a distorted indictment is."
Leader Jang made the remarks today (October 26) during a supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly, urging, "Even those related to Mayor Oh were completely acquitted. The special counsel must apologize to the public and immediately abandon its appeal to the Supreme Court."
Regarding President Lee Jae-myung considering Democratic Party lawmakers Park Kyun-taek and Yang Bu-nam as candidates for Minister of Justice, Leader Jang said, "Now that the court has clearly shown the judiciary is alive and well, President Lee Jae-myung and the ruling party are terrified," adding, "They are hastily considering two lawmakers from a group seeking dismissal of charges as justice minister candidates to turn the Ministry of Justice and the prosecution service into a 'law firm for dropping Lee Jae-myung's charges.'"
Leader Jang then referred to the Democratic Party's push to impeach Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae, pointing out, "Because President Lee faces the prospect of being ousted immediately if his trials resume, their real intention is to block it by suspending the Chief Justice from his duties."
Citing opinion poll results showing that a majority of respondents believe President Lee's trials must resume, Leader Jang said, "Whether they appoint a minister from the group seeking dismissal of charges or impeach the Chief Justice, the Lee Jae-myung administration has already been handed an eviction sentence in the court of public opinion. The public's order is to resume President Lee's trial," adding, "I hope Chief Justice Cho trusts the people and makes a resolute decision."
