Climate insurance is a system that provides insurance payouts to provincial residents who suffer damages such as heat- or cold-related illnesses due to climate factors like extreme heat and cold waves.

As of October 21, the total payout performance for this year's climate insurance, including heat-related illness diagnosis benefits, stood at 25,941 claims totaling 752.2 million won.

By category, outpatient visits to medical institutions for vulnerable climate groups were the most common with 24,200 claims totaling 484 million won, followed by heat-related illness diagnosis benefits.

In addition, payouts included 85 cases of infectious disease diagnosis benefits (17 million won), 165 cases of emergency room visit benefits (16.5 million won), 4 cases of climate disaster death condolence money (12 million won), 13 cases of heat-related illness hospitalization benefits (1.3 million won), and 2 cases of climate disaster accident condolence money (600,000 won).

Park Dae-keun, head of the Environmental Health and Safety Division at Gyeonggi Province, said, "Many residents who suffered health damage due to this summer's heat wave received practical support through the climate insurance." He added, "We will strengthen publicity so that residents can receive necessary support for seasonal climate risks such as infectious diseases in autumn and cold waves in winter, and continuously develop a safety net that protects the health of our residents."
