Cheong Wa Dae has confirmed that it is strongly considering Democratic Party lawmakers Park Kyun-taek and Yang Bu-nam, both former prosecutors, as candidates for the next minister of justice.
A Cheong Wa Dae official told SBS that "lawmakers Park Kyun-taek and Yang Bu-nam are under strong consideration as justice minister candidates," adding that the final selection is expected to come after next week's parliamentary audit of the Presidential Secretariat by the National Assembly's House Steering Committee.
Both Park and Yang, who were shortlisted as the final candidates, are first-term lawmakers representing constituencies in the Honam region and former chiefs of high prosecutors' offices, and are classified as aligned with the pro-Lee Jae-myung faction.
