A fire broke out at a scrapyard in Mubong-ri, Soheul-eup, Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, at around 11:56 AM today (October 24).

No casualties have been reported. However, as firefighting authorities feared the fire might spread to the surrounding area, they issued a Level 1 response at around 12:30 PM.

The Level 1 response was subsequently lifted at around 1:55 PM as the flames subsided.

Fire authorities brought the major flames under control about 3 hours and 30 minutes after the fire started, and completely extinguished it at around 5:16 PM.

As a large amount of black smoke was generated from the fire scene, the city of Pocheon sent out an emergency alert advising citizens to stay away from the accident site and urging vehicles to take detour routes.

Police and firefighting authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire.
