The state-sponsored Surukjae at Jingwansa, a tradition with a history of 628 years, has been held.

Jingwansa Temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism and the Jingwansa Surukjae Preservation Association held a commemorative ceremony for the Surukjae today (October 24) at Jingwansa Temple in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul. Attendees included Ven. Jinwoo, President of the Jogye Order's General Affairs; Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon; and Heo Min, Administrator of the Korea Heritage Service.

Surukjae, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, is a Buddhist ritual held to comfort the souls of all those who have died on water and land, and to pray for their rebirth in paradise by sharing Buddha's teachings and offerings.
