At least six people were killed and 28 others were injured in an armed attack at a church in southern Jordan on the 23rd (local time), according to Jordanian Government Spokesperson Mohammad Al-Momani.
According to the AP, AFP, and Reuters news agencies, two gunmen stepped out of a car and opened fire on people for about five minutes during a funeral service at the Greek Orthodox church in Karak, located about 180 kilometers south of the capital, Amman.
Around 150 to 200 people were inside and outside the church at the time, and most of the casualties are reported to be in their 50s to 70s.
Authorities are pursuing the fleeing suspects.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Karak is home to a minority Christian community in Jordan, where the majority of the population is Muslim.
In December 2016, armed assailants launched an attack at a 12th-century Crusader castle popular with tourists in the same area, leaving 10 people dead, including a Canadian tourist.
