▲ Shark "Bukang-i," which re-entered the containment barrier after moving outside the artificial waterway during a third guidance operation the previous day, swims inside the artificial waterway at the Busan North Port Waterfront Park on the morning of Oct. 22.
An oil spill occurred on Oct. 23 in the waters near the Busan North Port Waterfront Park, where the shark known as "Bukang-i" is staying.
According to the Busan Coast Guard, a report of an oil spill was received around 12:00 p.m. in the waters near the Marina Bridge exit of the waterfront park's artificial waterway, prompting the Coast Guard to dispatch personnel to the scene.
An oil slick measuring 10 meters wide and 30 meters long is reported to have formed.
The Coast Guard has deployed cleanup vessels and initiated containment and recovery operations.
Bukang-i, which had been spotted inside the exit of the waterfront park waterway earlier that morning, has not appeared for four to five hours.
Because of this, speculation has arisen that Bukang-i, which possesses sensitive sensory organs, may be diving deep underwater due to the oil spill and unable to surface.
