▲ The State Stamp Bureau of North Korea issued a 50-won stamp commemorating the summit between State Affairs Commission President Kim Jong-un and Chinese President Xi Jinping held in Pyongyang on June 8 – 9, the Korea Stamp Corporation reported on July 7.
Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a reply to North Korean State Affairs Commission President Kim Jong-un's congratulatory message on the 77th anniversary of China's National Day, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening friendly relations between the two countries.
In his reply message sent to Kim on October 20, Xi said, "The two countries of China and the DPRK (North Korea) are connected by mountains and rivers, and being friendly across generations, sharing a common destiny, and protecting and helping each other have always been distinct characteristics of China-DPRK relations," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported today (October 22).
Xi added that through the North Korea-China summit held during his visit to North Korea in June this year, both sides "reached a series of important common understandings regarding the deepening and development of China-DPRK relations and further strengthened strategic guidance."
He also emphasized, "The Chinese side is willing to work with the DPRK side to carry forward traditional China-DPRK friendship, consolidate mutual political trust, expand and develop practical cooperation, and maintain close communication and coordination, so as to improve the well-being of the two peoples and make active contributions to regional and global peace and development."
Xi also voiced support for North Korea's development.
"We are pleased to see that the DPRK is ushering in a new period of comprehensive socialist development," Xi said, adding, "We believe that under the steadfast leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea headed by Comrade General Secretary (Kim Jong-un), the cause of socialism in the DPRK will surely continue to break new ground."
Earlier on October 1, the 77th anniversary of China's National Day, Kim sent a congratulatory message to Xi, highlighting the blood alliance between North Korea and China and emphasizing his commitment to further developing the two nations' traditional friendship and defending common interests.
Relations between North Korea and China experienced a brief cooling period in 2024 amid Pyongyang's closer ties with Russia, but have gained momentum in restoring relations following Kim's attendance at China's Victory Day military parade and Xi's visit to North Korea this year.
Exchanges and cooperation between the two countries appear to be expanding, including the opening of the New Yalu River Bridge this month.
