Global hedge funds reduced their tech stock holdings at a record-fast pace over the five trading sessions leading up to the 15th, according to major U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs.

In a prime brokerage report released on the 19th local time, Goldman Sachs stated that hedge funds rapidly sold off tech stocks during this period.

This marks the largest decrease since Goldman Sachs began compiling relevant data in 2016.

Despite this reduction in weight, hedge funds still hold substantial amounts of tech stocks.

According to the report, the proportion of tech stocks in hedge fund portfolios stands at 23.5%, placing it in the top 10% compared to levels seen over the past five years.

Goldman Sachs analyzed that this sell-off was not driven by new short-selling bets, but rather through the liquidation of long positions, primarily clearing out previously held holdings.

During the same period, the overall trading volume of hedge funds also decreased at its fastest rate in the past three months.

Last week, the Nasdaq 100 index fell 5.5% as enthusiasm for artificial intelligence (AI)-related investments cooled.

This marks the largest weekly decline since April 2025.

Over the five trading sessions tracked by Goldman Sachs data, tech stocks showed the poorest performance within the MSCI World Index.

Sell-offs were heavy in the information technology (IT) sector, with the semiconductor segment taking the hardest hit in terms of monetary value.
