Comedian Lee Hyuk-jae has been forwarded to the prosecution after crashing into a motorcycle while driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Incheon Yeonsu Police Station announced that it has booked Lee without detention on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act and recently forwarded the case to the Incheon District Prosecutors Office.
Lee is accused of driving under the influence at around 10:00 p.m. on September 8 in front of the Korea Coast Guard intersection in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, and crashing into a motorcycle that was waiting at a traffic signal.
At the time, Lee's blood alcohol concentration measured by police at the scene was at the level for license suspension.
Lee claimed that he had been having dinner at a restaurant 300 to 500 meters from his home, drank one or two glasses of alcohol, and ended up causing the accident while driving, after which he reported it to the police himself.
At the time of the accident, Lee stated, "I came out saying I wouldn't drink during the meal, and while trying to pick up my dropped cell phone, the vehicle moved forward and caused the accident."
A police official explained that following the investigation, they forwarded the case applying only the drunk driving charge, rather than a charge of causing injury under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents.
