Citizens who subdued Choi Choong-rak, who injured eight people in a stabbing rampage at a large commercial facility in Incheon, have received arrest rewards.
According to the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency today (October 20), police issued arrest rewards yesterday to five citizens who contributed to subduing Choi.
The recipients include Shin Jung-hyun, who directly subdued Choi by throwing a chair, and Na Hyun-jun, who blocked Choi's attack and assisted in the subdual process.
Three other recipients were also recognized for their contributions to the arrest, such as holding Choi down so he could not move.
However, considering that one of the victims remains unconscious and is still undergoing treatment, the police held a quiet reward ceremony without notifying the outside.
It was learned that the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the National Police Agency are also reviewing plans to award government commendations to them separately from the arrest rewards.
Previously, Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae stated on his Facebook page that thanks to the citizens who risked their lives to subdue the culprit, further damage was prevented, and requested a government-level commendation.
Choi is accused of attempting to murder 10 visitors with a weapon around 1:48 p.m. on October 13 at the C&C building, a large commercial facility in Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon, which houses a large supermarket and a movie theater.
Among the victims, eight people, including a 19-year-old woman who is unconscious, were classified as injured, while two others were found to be unhurt.
