The professional baseball club Samsung Lions announced on October 19 that they have decided not to renew contracts with 10 players as part of a team reorganization.
Among the pitchers, eight players will leave the team: Yang Hyun, Hong Won-pyo, Huh Yun-dong, Park Ju-hyeok, Kim Dong-hyun, Shin Yoon-ho, Park Si-won, and Yu Byeong-seon.
Infielder Park Jang-min and outfielder Hong Hyun-bin were also included on the release list.
Among them, Huh Yun-dong is a left-handed pitcher who joined the Samsung Lions as the 5th overall pick in the first round of the 2020 secondary draft.
In his debut year, he showed potential with 2 wins, 1 loss, and a 4.80 ERA across 11 games, but he has not stepped onto the first-team mound since the end of the 2023 season.
After fulfilling his military service with the Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps (Sangmu) in 2024 and returning to Samsung last year, he leaves the team after recording 6 wins, 1 loss, 3 holds, and a 5.05 ERA in 33 Futures (minor) league games this year.
Veteran submariner Yang Hyun leaves behind a career record of 14 wins, 15 losses, 4 saves, 47 holds, and a 4.22 ERA in 284 first-team appearances.
After donning the Samsung uniform in 2024, he made consistent appearances, but featured in only 2 first-team games this year.
Outfielder Hong Hyun-bin played in 281 first-team games, recording a batting average of 0.192 with 49 hits, 7 RBIs, and 8 stolen bases.
