A man in his 20s of Kazakh nationality has been arrested for blocking a vehicle and threatening the driver on a road in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, late at night.
According to the Icheon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province and other sources on October 18, the Yeoju Branch of the Suwon District Court held a pre-trial detention hearing (warrant substantive examination) for the Kazakh national, 21-year-old A, who is facing charges including special intimidation and property damage.
The court issued an arrest warrant for A, citing concerns that he might attempt to flee.
A is suspected of chasing a passenger car carrying a man in his 30s and a companion on a road in Haewol-ri, Majang-myeon, Icheon, at around 11:40 p.m. on July 29, along with an acquaintance of the same nationality, 25-year-old B. They allegedly blocked the vehicle and threatened the occupants by kicking the front of the car.
During police questioning, A admitted to the crime, stating, "While returning after failing to sell a car to another foreigner, I chased the victim's vehicle, mistaking it for the vehicle of the prospective buyer."
Initially failing to identify a suspect after the incident occurred, the police classified the case as an unsolved file in mid-September. However, following criticism from political circles and the media, they resumed the investigation on September 21 of the same month.
Through detailed analysis by the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency's forensic unit, investigators restored part of the license plate number of the suspect vehicle captured on dashcam footage. By tracking social media and other leads, they identified A and urgently arrested him at a multi-family housing unit in Anseong on October 16.
It was learned that the accomplice, B, was forcibly deported earlier this month after being caught for a separate illegal stay violation.
With A's custody secured, the police plan to continue investigating the precise circumstances of the incident.
