Pope Leo XIV, who recently underwent cancer surgery, presided over the scheduled Sunday Mass at St. Peter's Square on the 18th (local time).
According to the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV led the Angelus prayer held at St. Peter's Square on this day.
Expressing gratitude to everyone who prayed for him, the Pope stated, "Having overcome a difficult period, I will gradually resume my activities."
When the Pope appeared at the window of the Apostolic Palace, the crowd cheered and shouted, "Long live the Pope!"
The Pope, who is 71 years old this year, underwent surgery on the lower lobe of his right lung on the 13th after a nodule suspected of being cancer was discovered.
The surgery results confirmed it to be adenocarcinoma, the most common form of lung cancer.
Hospital medical staff stated in a statement released through the Vatican the previous day that the Pope had undergone blood tests and a chest X-ray, confirming that he was in a condition fit for discharge.
Although the Pope's health is recovering, it remains uncertain whether he will be able to proceed with his scheduled tour of South America, including Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru, from the 6th to the 17th of next month.
Pope Leo XIV, 71 years old this year, is considered to have become Pope at a relatively younger age than his predecessors.
He enjoys sports such as tennis and was previously known to have no significant medical history.
