An elderly man in his 70s attempting to cross a pedestrian crosswalk has died after being struck by an excavator heading to a nearby construction site.

At around 11:24 a.m. yesterday (October 14), a man in his 70s, identified as A, was hit by an excavator while trying to cross a road in Hyosung-dong, Gyeyang-gu, Incheon.

A sustained severe injuries from the accident and was transported to a hospital in a state of cardiac arrest, but ultimately passed away.

It is reported that the excavator driver, a man in his 50s identified as B, failed to spot A while moving the vehicle toward a water supply construction site across the pedestrian crosswalk, resulting in the collision.

Police plan to book B on charges of causing death through professional negligence under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents and investigate the exact circumstances of the accident.
