Goldmedalist, the agency representing actor Kim Soo-hyun, has announced that it will take legal action against the spread of false information and acts of defamation and personality infringement.
In an official notice on October 14, Goldmedalist stated, "Regarding the false claim that Kim Soo-hyun dated the deceased when she was a minor and the subsequent allegation of violating the Child Welfare Act, the investigative agency reviewed relevant materials and facts and concluded that the charges could not be recognized, deciding not to send the case for prosecution due to a lack of charges." The agency added, "It has been confirmed that the series of claims raised against Kim Soo-hyun have no factual or objective basis, and this matter is no longer at the stage of unverified debate, but rather false information proven through official investigative results."
The agency warned, "Kim Se-ui, the operator of Hover Lab who initially raised and continuously spread the false claims, has been indicted and put on trial in a detained state for defamation through the designation of false information under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc." It further cautioned, "The act of continuously citing, reposting, sharing, or redistributing the contents claimed by Kim Se-ui constitutes additional illegal acts that continue and expand the crime's damage."
The agency also took issue with acts of enlarging and reproducing screens, thumbnails, photos, and captured images used in Hover Lab's broadcasts.
"These can be judged as malicious additional attacks on the crime victim and acts intended to intentionally expand the damage," the agency stated, adding, "We will clearly demonstrate to investigative agencies and courts that such acts are intentional distribution activities and take all legal measures to ensure strict punishment and responsibility are imposed."
In March of last year, Hover Lab raised suspicions that Kim Soo-hyun had been in a relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron since she was a minor, and Kim Soo-hyun's agency has maintained that the claims are groundless while pursuing legal responses. Hover Lab representative Kim Se-ui, who raised the allegations, was arrested on May 26 of last year on charges including the spread of false information and defamation against Kim Soo-hyun, and is currently on trial following his indictment in detention.
