Two heavy uploaders who distributed millions of illegal adult videos online have been arrested by police.
The Chungnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 13th that it has arrested an individual in their 40s, surnamed A, and booked another individual in their 30s, surnamed B, without detention on charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, and forwarded them to the prosecutors' office.
A and their accomplice are accused of creating some 600 accounts using other people's names across 13 domestic webhard sites from 2024 until recently, through which they posted 8.4 million illegal adult videos.
Investigators found that the suspects downloaded existing adult content and then used a specific program to repeatedly change the file names of the same videos, mass-distributing them across multiple webhard platforms.
Every time users downloaded the videos, accumulated points were exchanged for gift certificates and then converted into cash, netting the suspects approximately 90 million won in illicit profits.
Police applied for and were granted pre-indictment preservation orders for about 72 million won of the criminal proceeds, and are tracking down another accomplice staying overseas through Interpol Red Notices and other measures.
Additionally, all posts uploaded through the accounts created by the suspects have been deleted.
An official from the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency stated, "We will apprehend the accomplice residing overseas, repatriate them to South Korea, and relentlessly track down and recover the remaining criminal proceeds."
