A 60s man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing and killing a woman in her 40s on a street in Jeju.
The Jeju Western Police Station announced that it has urgently arrested a man in his 60s, identified as A, on murder charges.
A is suspected of stabbing a woman in her 40s, identified as B, to death on a street in front of a hotel in Yeondong, Jeju City, at around 1:40 AM today (October 12).
Police apprehended the fleeing suspect about three and a half hours later, at around 5:10 AM, on a street in Geonip-dong, Jeju City.
During police questioning, A claimed that he had been in a romantic relationship with B. It was confirmed that B had previously filed multiple reports against A for stalking and dating violence.
Following the reports, police had provided B with a smart watch and registered her as a target for safety measures in the 112 emergency reporting system, taking into account the possibility of retaliation.
However, it was reported that because previous reports involving violence were settled at the scene when police responded, measures such as a restraining order against A were not issued.
Police are currently investigating the exact motive and circumstances of the crime involving A.
