Unification Minister Chung Dong-young reiterated his stance that he did not leak U.S. intelligence, in relation to Washington partially restricting information sharing with South Korea following his remarks on the Kusong nuclear facility in March.
Speaking to reporters at the Government Complex Seoul on Monday (October 12), Chung said, "I also spoke about Kusong City during the confirmation hearing in July 2025," before taking office as unification minister, adding, "I asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to explain this to the U.S. side, and I also asked the ambassador to the U.S. to explain it."
Regarding recent, repeated reports of discord between South Korea and the United States, Chung remarked, "It can happen, but the amplifier is the problem," asserting that claims from some quarters that the South Korea-U.S. alliance has been undermined are completely untrue.
