Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-jung has ordered an inspection into Gwangju Crime Investigation Office (CIO) head Lim Eun-jung, who has continuously and publicly criticized the CIO chief nominee Kim Ji-yong. This marks the first exercise of supervisory authority by the Minister of the Interior and Safety since the launch of the CIO, with Minister Yoon criticizing that Lim is mistaking the CIO for a political organization.

Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-jung has ordered the CIO to initiate an inspection of Gwangju Regional CIO Head Lim Eun-jung.

Via social media, Minister Yoon strongly rebuked, saying, "Head Lim seems to mistake the CIO not as an investigative agency, but as a political organization."

This is interpreted as an order for a public inspection, viewing Lim's continuous public criticism of Kim Ji-yong—the nominee for the inaugural CIO head, who was nominated by the President upon the recommendation of the Minister of the Interior and Safety—as a challenge to personnel authority.

Regarding Head Lim, Minister Yoon emphasized, "I am concerned that past wrongful practices such as political intervention and collective action by the prosecution might be carried over to the CIO," adding, "Establishing discipline against behavior unbecoming of a high-ranking public official and the mission of the institution is also a part of prosecution reform."

Previously, Head Lim issued public criticisms five times following the nomination of Candidate Kim.

The order to inspect Head Lim marks the first exercise of supervisory authority by the Minister of the Interior and Safety since the launch of the CIO on October 2.

With Candidate Kim's National Assembly confirmation hearing coming up on October 14, some analyze that this public inspection order is a strategic move to ensure the smooth progress of the confirmation hearing and stabilize the organization in the early stages of the CIO's launch.

In response, Head Lim stated, "It is regrettable and sad to become the first subject of inspection by the CIO," while adding, "I will handle it well."
