A passenger car driving along a national highway at night in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, plunged down a slope, resulting in the death of the driver in their 30s.
According to police and firefighting authorities, a report was received at around 10:50 p.m. yesterday (October 10) that a K3 passenger car traveling toward Yongin on National Route 45 in Yangseong-myeon, Anseong, had plunged down a slope off the road.
As a result of the accident, the driver, a man in his 30s identified as A, was rescued and taken to a hospital but died.
It was learned that A met his fate while moving to the next gathering spot, a cafe in Yongin, after finishing a gathering with other members at a cafe in Yangseong-myeon, Anseong, as part of a car club activity about an hour before the accident occurred.
When A failed to arrive at the designated meeting place and could not be reached, other members checked his travel route and discovered damaged median barriers at the accident scene before reporting it.
Police believe that while driving along a two-lane-each-way road that curved to the left, A collided with the median barrier, bounced to the right, struck the guardrail, and plunged down a slope about 5 meters below.
Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident, keeping in mind the possibility that A was driving over the 80 km/h speed limit, based on skid marks found at the scene and footage from the vehicle's black box camera.
