A Chinese couple residing in the United States has been arrested by local police after it was revealed that they monitored and physically punished over 20 children obtained through surrogacy via closed-circuit television (CCTV).
It was reported that inside the mansion were three rooms referred to as learning centers, where the children were forced to sit at desks for hours.
The couple installed 25 cameras throughout the house and monitored them from their bedroom.
In addition, all the children had shaved heads and were reportedly subjected to physical punishment by caregivers.
CCTV footage also captured caregivers hitting children in the face and forcing them into squatting punishments.
The prosecutor handling the case defined it as an "unprecedented case of child abuse."
Furthermore, authorities explained that they are investigating why the couple used surrogacy methods to have so many children, as well as who the biological parents of the children are.
