Actor Kim Ji-won announced her return to the small screen with "Doctor X" two years after "Queen of Tears".
On the afternoon of the 7th, a production presentation for the new Friday-Saturday drama "Doctor X: The Age of White Mafia" (written by Pyeon Seong-geun, directed by Lee Jeong-rim, hereinafter "Doctor X") was held at the SBS building in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. Director Lee Jeong-rim, along with actors Kim Ji-won, Lee Jeong-eun, Son Hyun-joo, and Kim Woo-seok, attended the event.
"Doctor X" is a refreshing medical noir depicting the exploits of Gye Soo-jung (played by Kim Ji-won), a madwoman in the operating room who shatters massive absurdities with her genius surgical skills.
Returning to the small screen two years after the box office success of her previous work "Queen of Tears," Kim Ji-won shared her thoughts, saying, "During the hiatus, I spent time preparing personally and waiting, and then I met a great script called 'Doctor X.' Seeing my trust in Director Lee Jeong-rim and the reliable lineup of senior actors, I really wanted to take on the challenge. I had a lot of ambition, thinking it would be a great opportunity for me to learn a lot while working with such wonderful senior actors."
In "Doctor X," Kim Ji-won plays a genius surgeon who swallows up the world of the White Mafia at the massive Guseo University Hospital solely with her overwhelming surgical skills. Gye Soo-jung's journey of dismantling the Guseo University Hospital cartel with monster-like surgical techniques that no one can dare challenge—consistently responding with "I don't do that" to absurd duties such as ward rounds, company dinners, assisting with thesis papers, and overnight shifts—is expected to deliver thrilling vicarious satisfaction and catharsis.
Regarding her external transformation, Kim Ji-won shared, "I transformed with a rough-looking bob and minimized flashy external styling as much as possible, unlike my previous work."
She added regarding the pressure of taking on the title role, "I found the courage because I wondered when else I could play such an attractive title role. I prepared hard with the mindset that it would be the utmost honor if I could leave behind one great medical drama in my acting career. Looking back a long time from now, it will be an honor to remember that I did a project like this and worked with such wonderful people. Of course, there was pressure, but that made me try even harder and do my best."
"Doctor X," which is raising expectations for Kim Ji-won's transformation, will premiere at 9:50 p.m. on Friday, the 9th.
