Police have requested an arrest warrant for a man in his 20s on charges of murdering a man he did not know at a home in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul.
The Seoul Gangbuk Police Station announced that it requested an arrest warrant for a man in his 20s, identified as A, on murder charges today (October 6).
A is suspected of strangling and killing a man in his 70s, identified as B, who was a resident of a home in Beondong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, at around 11:00 p.m. on October 3.
Police received a report that B could not be reached and, while tracking his whereabouts, discovered B dead inside his home at around 7:00 p.m. the day before yesterday (October 4).
Police subsequently analyzed CCTV footage around the scene to identify A as a suspect and urgently arrested him at around 1:00 a.m. yesterday (October 5).
It was reported that A and the victim did not know each other.
During police questioning, A claimed that he went to confront B after bumping shoulders with him on the street and committed the murder on impulse.
However, upon analyzing CCTV footage and other evidence, police confirmed that there was no footage of B bumping into anyone on his way home from a restaurant.
Believing it is highly likely that A made a false statement, police plan to investigate the motive for the crime through a psychopath checklist and other assessments.
