The South Korean women's national volleyball team will compete in the 2027 International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Cup (formerly World Championship), which offers qualification berths for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The FIVB announced the final 32 participating teams for the 2027 World Cup through its official website.
The South Korean national team secured their ticket to the World Cup stage based on their world ranking (27th) as of October 2.
Although the national team missed out on the World Cup berths granted to the top three teams after failing to reach the semifinals at the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship in August, they managed to grab the last spot through their world ranking.
The World Cup will be held from August 20 to September 5, 2027, across the United States and Canada. Among the teams that have not yet secured a berth for the LA Olympics, the top three finishers at the World Cup will earn direct qualification to the LA Games.
The 32 teams will be divided into eight groups of four for the group stage, after which the top two teams from each group will advance to the round of 16, determining the final rankings through a knockout tournament.
Specific schedules will be finalized within this year.
Participating in the 2027 World Cup will be host countries the United States and Canada, defending champions Italy, alongside teams that secured tickets through continental championships: Thailand, China, and Japan (Asia); Egypt, Kenya, and Cameroon (Africa); Turkey, Serbia, and Poland (Europe); Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico (North America); and Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia (South America).
The 14 teams that earned qualification berths via world rankings include South Korea, the Netherlands, Russia, Germany, Czech Republic, Belgium, France, Slovenia, Sweden, Mexico, Ukraine, Greece, Bulgaria, and Switzerland.
The 2027 World Cup serves as a prelude to the LA Olympics.
The women's volleyball tournament at the LA Olympics will feature 12 teams, with host nation the United States and the five winners of the continental championships already securing their berths.
Of the remaining six spots, three will be decided at the 2027 World Cup, and the other three through the FIVB world rankings next year.
Meanwhile, the men's national volleyball team finished third at the Asian Championship last month, early confirming their direct qualification for the 2027 World Cup.
