A park in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.
Late at night, several men chase down a person and strike them repeatedly with wooden sticks.
[Stop! (You're all on camera!)]
As the voluntary crime prevention patrol approaches blowing whistles, the men drop their wooden sticks and scatter in all directions.
The report regarding a dozen foreign nationals of Central Asian nationalities fighting in the park was received at around 11:30 PM last night.
It is reported that after being dispersed by the voluntary patrol from another park about 350 meters away, they moved to this location to continue the fight.
[Park Jun-woo / Dogok-ri Pureun Voluntary Crime Prevention Patrol Member: They took out things like wooden sticks and steel pipes from their cars and came in swinging. We blew our whistles continuously to threaten them and pushed them back to scatter them.]
The gang fighting in the park fled in vehicles when the police arrived.
Some individuals even went into a nearby convenience store and asked to be hidden.
Police arrested two foreign men in their 20s—one from Kyrgyzstan and one of Russian nationality—at the scene, and it has been verified that both are receiving treatment at a hospital for injuries.
Nearby residents are unable to hide their anxiety over the midnight mass brawl.
[Nearby Resident: They were beating each other up over there, it was terrifying. Fights happen occasionally. Not all the time, but every now and then in the evening, people from the same country fight each other, smashing cars...]
Police plan to track down and apprehend the fleeing individuals before investigating the specific details of the crime.
