On the 19th anniversary of the October 4 Inter-Korean Summit Declaration, the Democratic Party of Korea urged that "stalled dialogue must resume."
In a written briefing today (October 4), Senior Spokesperson Park Sung-joon stated, "The Korean Peninsula today has drifted far from the promises made on that day. Inter-Korean dialogue has been severed, and North Korea's nuclear and missile capabilities have become more advanced than before."
Park pointed out, "Our soldiers were seriously injured by landmines planted by the North Korean military," adding, "As confrontation and severance deepen, military tensions rise, increasing risks to our soldiers' safety and escalating public anxiety over national security."
Referring to President Lee's recent remarks at the UN General Assembly about seeking joint growth through inter-Korean cooperation, he stated, "We will also propose a step-by-step solution to halt North Korea's nuclear and missile advancement and, in the long term, move toward a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula."
He further urged North Korea, saying, "Fortifying the border and laying landmines violate the Armistice Agreement and go against the October 4 Inter-Korean Summit Declaration," adding, "The North Korean authorities must demonstrate a responsible attitude regarding the landmine explosion incident and come forward for dialogue."
He added, "As the ruling party, the Democratic Party will respond resolutely to North Korean provocations, and will also make efforts at the National Assembly level to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula and restore inter-Korean dialogue."
