A conservative group has publicly announced plans to hold rallies for nearly a month in front of the home of actor Yoo Hae-jin under the pretext of protesting the film "The Assassins."
Kim Sang-jin, head of the conservative group New Freedom Union, posted on his social media on the 1st, writing, "Completed filing a rally notice in front of the home in [neighborhood name omitted] of Yoo Hae-jin, the lead actor of the movie The Assassins." He added, "If I hold the rally, I expect his management agency will likely move Yoo Hae-jin's residence. I will prove later that 'Yoo Hae-jin ran away and left home.' Struggle!!!"
Along with the post, Kim uploaded photos showing the exterior of a building presumed to be Yoo Hae-jin's home, as well as the receipt for filing an outdoor rally (demonstration and march).
According to the released receipt, the title of the rally is "Condemnation of Yoo Hae-jin and Condemnation of The Assassins Production Company." The scheduled period runs from the 3rd to the 30th of this month, with dates listed consecutively starting from the 3rd. The reported number of participants is 20. The methods of demonstration listed include cultural events, national ceremonies, introduction of participants, and speeches by speakers. Equipment listed as preparation items includes two broadcasting vehicles, a foldable temporary stage, sound equipment, and one video vehicle. The phrase "Administrative guidance appendix attached" remains at the bottom of the receipt.
The New Freedom Union is a group established in 2021 by Kim Sang-jin, a former secretary-general of the Freedom Union, after he left the organization. Kim operates the YouTube channel "Kim Sang-jin TV" and has led rallies calling for the arrest of former President Moon Jae-in.
Although Kim's post spread rapidly through social media and online communities immediately after being uploaded, public reaction has been cold. One netizen left a comment on the post saying, "Go to their house and hold a rally?? (omitted) What did the people living nearby do wrong?", which received over 1,000 likes. Criticisms have poured in stating that expressing differing opinions about a movie at an individual actor's private residence rather than the production company crosses the line. Concerns over invasion of privacy and threats to personal safety have also been raised regarding the unmasked publication of photos showing the exterior of the home.
Directed by Hur Jin-ho and starring Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il, and Lee Min-ho, "The Assassins" is a film that tracks the suspicions and background behind the August 15, 1974 assassination of First Lady Yuk Young-su. It was released on the 23rd of last month.
