South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is continuing communication through diplomatic channels with Ukraine regarding Kyiv's unilateral disclosure of the transfer of two North Korean prisoners of war (POWs) to South Korea.
A Foreign Ministry official said on Thursday (October 1), "Our position has been conveyed, and Ukraine is likely reviewing it," adding, "Communication between the diplomatic authorities is underway."
The official added, "Ukraine also understands that this issue is a sensitive matter, and considering our bilateral relations, we expect them to state their position."
However, the official noted that Ukraine has not yet issued an official statement, adding that the specific format or timing of such a statement cannot be determined at this stage.
On September 28, First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo summoned Ukraine's Chargé d'Affaires to South Korea Andrii Beshkin to express regret over the unilateral disclosure of the North Korean POW repatriation and the Ukrainian Presidential Office's announcement claiming that no confidentiality agreement existed, while demanding an official explanation and apology.
