The South Korean men's compound archery team has fallen to the defending champions India, halting its bid to reclaim the Asian Games title for the first time in eight years.
South Korea, represented by Choi Yong-hee, Kim Jong-ho (both from Hyundai Steel), and Choi Eun-gyu (Ulsan Nam-gu Office), lost 229-236 to India in the semifinals of the compound men's team event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games held at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Ground in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, on September 30.
South Korea will face Taiwan in the bronze medal match later today.
South Korea scored 58 points in the first end, but India landed all six arrows in the 10-ring, falling behind 58-60.
In the second end, South Korea managed only 57 points, widening the score gap to 115-119.
In the third end, South Korea recorded 56 points while India shot 59, pushing the deficit to 7 points at 171-178.
South Korea scored 58 in the fourth end, but ultimately failed to turn the match around, losing 229-236.
South Korea won the silver medal at the 2014 Incheon Games, where the event was first introduced, and claimed the gold medal at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games.
In 2018, Choi Yong-hee, Kim Jong-ho, and Hong Sung-ho defeated India in a shoot-off in the final to reach the top of the podium.
However, the team lost 230-235 to India in the final at the 2022 Hangzhou Games, taking home the silver medal.
