Solid backing has provided the foundation for South Korean handball to leap back to the top tier of Asia at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
The women's handball national team recaptured the gold medal after eight years by defeating Japan in this tournament, while the men's team, although missing the podium for the second consecutive time, put up a strong performance by finishing fourth, pushing past traditional Middle Eastern powerhouses like Kuwait and Iran.
As the head company of the Korea Handball Association, SK has served as a pillar of support for South Korean handball, contributing a cumulative total of over 170 billion won to expand the sport's infrastructure and base—including the construction of a dedicated stadium and the launch of the H League—ever since Group Chairman Chey Tae-won took office as head of the association in late 2008.
Since February 2025, SK Hynix President and CEO Kwak Noh-jung has been leading the Korea Handball Association.
The SK Group attributed the national team's strong performance to intensified analysis of rival nations following the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, specialized medical and mental care support for national athletes, and the growth of the H League, which was launched in 2023 and has established itself as a competitive league featuring six men's teams and eight women's teams.
The group added that it will provide full support for the women's handball national team to secure a berth at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, writing a new chapter in world ball-sport history with a record-extending 12th consecutive Olympic appearance.
