A story has been shared about a female high school student who discovered a fire at a transformer while taking a class at an academy and extinguished it herself using a fire extinguisher.
Around 4:00 PM on September 25, a fire broke out at a transformer in Okam-dong, Mokpo, South Jeolla Province.
Flames were soaring among discarded boxes near the transformer, creating a situation that could have led to secondary accidents such as chain explosions or power outages.
Kim Seung-yu, a high school student taking a class at the academy, noticed black smoke rising outside the window and immediately ran to the fire scene.
She then asked a nearby passerby to report the fire, grabbed a nearby fire extinguisher, and set out to put it out.
Even after the flames subsided, concerned that the fire might reignite, she fetched water from nearby and sprinkled it.
The fire was extinguished by Kim in five minutes, and fortunately, no one was injured.
The Mokpo Fire Station plans to award a commendation to Kim for her contribution.
