World-dominant South Korean archery is taking its first step toward sweeping all 10 gold medals up for grabs at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
The vanguard is the compound national team.
Archery is largely divided into compound and recurve.
Compound bows feature pulleys at both ends to shoot arrows with greater power and precision, whereas recurve is the traditional method where archers draw the string entirely using human arm strength.
The compound mixed team event has been added as an official medal event for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Today (September 30), the semifinals and finals of the men's, women's, and mixed compound team events will be held consecutively at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Ground in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
Both the South Korean men's and women's team squads will face India, a self-proclaimed powerhouse in the discipline, in their respective semifinals.
Should they defeat India, both teams will compete for the gold medal against the winner of the match between China and Chinese Taipei.
In the mixed team event, South Korea will face China in the semifinals, and if they advance to the final, they will clash with the winner between India and Thailand.
Following the compound team events, the compound men's and women's individual events will take place tomorrow (October 1), followed sequentially by the recurve men's, women's, and mixed team events the day after tomorrow (October 2).
South Korean archery aims to sweep all 10 gold medals at this competition, with the compound events holding the key to achieving this goal.
Lee Ha-rim (Yangpyeong County Office), a prominent figure in lightweight judo, will compete in the men's 60kg division at the Aichi International Arena in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
Having won a bronze medal at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games and a silver medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Games, Lee is now eyeing the gold.
The under-23 (U-23) men's national football team, aiming for its fourth consecutive championship, will play its semifinal match against China at 3:00 PM at the Nagai Stadium in Osaka Prefecture.
Deploying overseas-based players, the team seeks revenge against China, which has won consecutive titles in this age group.
The women's field hockey national team will compete against India for a spot in the final at 7:00 PM at the Gifu Green Stadium.
Having won the silver medal at the Hangzhou Games, South Korea will face the winner between China and Japan in the ultimate showdown if they defeat India.
